New Year Skin Reset 7-Day Challenge

New Year Skin Reset 7-Day Challenge starts now. Time flies, and now the holidays are officially over. All that’s left are the memories of merriment and -- unfortunately -- the physical signs of dull skin and imminent breakouts. There’s a high chance that your routine probably got thrown off during the holiday season. And now that 2020 is here, it’s the perfect time to do a little skin reset and refueling.

So, I’ve crafted a simple 7-day challenge to help rejuvenate and renew your skin so you can have a fresh start for the year ahead. Don’t worry, the challenge involves only doing one thing per day so you’re not overwhelmed.

Let the countdown to beautiful skin begin

Day 1 - No Make-Up Day

Time to go back to basics and let your skin breathe. I know, I know, some of us can’t afford to not wear makeup to work. So it’s best to start this challenge on a weekend where you can stay at home all day or accomplish a few errands. But if you’re fine with going bare for a day or even a few days, I highly encourage you to ditch the makeup for a while.

Like it or not, makeup contains fragrances, preservatives, and other allergens that trigger eczema, pimples, rosacea and a variety of other skin issues. But even if you’re not suffering from any irritations from your makeup right now, it’s still a good idea to put the brushes down and just allow your skin to breathe. And since we’re doing a skin reset challenge, this is the most effective way of starting it off.

Day 2 - Full-on Skincare Routine

Now that you’ve given your skin some space, it’s now time to smother it with all the love it deserves. Indulge in a complete skincare routine with a cleanser, toner, serum, eye cream, moisturizer, and SPF. In the night, switch the SPF for an intensive overnight treatment. If you’re accustomed to a shorter skincare routine, then the Oh It’s Natural Glowing Skin Kit is my top pick. It’s a 3-step routine that includes a cleanser, facial oil, and scrub -- all of which are handcrafted and packed with the goodness of natural ingredients.

Day 3 - Get your dose of antioxidants

...from fruits! Having a healthy diet results in a lot of things, including fighting off ugly free radicals. Restore your skin and body to its healthy state by eating fruits such as blueberries, oranges, kiwi, strawberries, guava, papaya, and watermelon.

Day 4 - Get moving

Exercise! Getting your sweat on increases blood circulation, which then helps nourish skin cells. Thus, you’ll look absolutely radiant on the outside. After all, I’m sure fitness is one of your goals this 2020. Knowing that exercise improves the skin can further motivate you to follow through with that.

Day 5 - Indulge in a facial with microcurrents

This is relatively new and it’s fun to try! Facials are common but microcurrents? Not so much. In a nutshell, microcurrents are like Pilates for the skin. It’s facial stimulation that works to exercise facial muscles to lift and tone the face. It’s really relaxing and the massage triggers collagen and elastin production as well.

Day 6 - Goodbye, salt & sugar!

As I’ve said, a healthy diet helps a lot with enhancing your glow and renewing your skin. Today, lay off the salt and sugar Too much sodium leads to puffy eyes, dehydration, and oily skin. Sugar, on the other hand, slows down collagen and elastin production while simultaneously causing inflammation. Together, salt and sugar are a recipe for skin disaster.

So, what will you eat today? Fiber-rich foods are your friends, including chickpeas, Brussel sprouts, sweet potato, chia seeds, artichokes, and lentils.

Day 7 - Time for some R&R

Today is the final day of the challenge and you’d have nothing to do but rest and relax. You must have been busy especially in the past holidays and you may not have had a proper day’s rest yet. Well, today’s the day for exactly that.

What does this have to do with skin reset, you say? Well, getting the right amount of rest and sleep significantly lessens inflammation and slows down aging. Your skin cells will have time to regenerate and your immune system can properly recharge as well.

Try getting a massage or visit your favorite spa. Or, you can just stay at home and do some stretches and meditation. Either way, let your body and mind release all the stresses it has been through this past couple of weeks.

Start 2020 right by doing the 7-Day Skin Reset Challenge. Once you’ve taken the time to let your skin breathe and restore itself, you’ll see the difference even in just a week. Remember that you can do this challenge not just at the start of the year, but at any time you feel that your skin needs some rejuvenation and renewal.
