How does travel really affect your skin?
Ever take a selfie on a plane and notice a new blemish that was not there earlier that day? You may be wondering how traveling can impact your skin and selfie.
Two things: weather changes and stress.
Going from a cold temperature to a humid one triggers the production of more oil and sweat that eventually leads to acne. If you’re going from humid to cold, you’d be more prone to dry skin. Either way, changes in your regular environment can disrupt what your skin is accustomed to.
As for the stress factor, traveling involves a lot of planning and moving around. You book flights, search for the perfect hotel, plan an exciting itinerary, pack everything you need, and address any bumps along the way. When you’re stressed out, you release a hormone called cortisol, which aggravates acne and other skin problems.
Weather changes and stress are things that you can’t really control when it comes to travel. But don’t worry; you can still capture that skin-perfect selfie with my travel skincare tips below.
5 Simple Skincare Tips for Flawless Skin During Holiday Travel
Downsize. Blemish-free and travel-ready skin starts with having the right products with you at all times. Obviously, you can’t pack your entire skincare fridge into your travel skincare bag. Make sure you have your major essentials like your, moisturizer, exfoliator, and any spot treatments you’ll need. Don't forget to toss in a face mist – trust me, you’ll need it. Make sure everything is in travel-friendly sizes too. Having a travel skincare set ready to go will make your skincare routine so much easier on your holiday trip.
Take a face mist You can be on island, a lush garden, or a busy street. Wherever you are, your skin will need all the hydration it can get. A face mist is a simple travel skincare essential that you can carry with you to get that moisture boost on-the-go. You wouldn’t want your skin to dry out, would you?
Include a rosewater face mist in your travel skincare bag. Simply spritz your face after a long flight, let it dry for a bit, and go on enjoying your day. You will instantly feel refreshed!
Pack a moisturizing oil Traveling exposes you to a completely different environment, not to mention free radicals. You need an intense moisturizer that will deeply nourish your skin. Facial oils are the perfect solution for your travel skincare worries, whether your skin is dry, oily, or acne-prone. Oils are chock-full of antioxidants that combat free radicals in smoke, pollutants, and the food you eat. If you want to go the natural route, hemp seed oil is an excellent choice.
Exfoliate We all want perfect vacation photos, so looking fresh is the goal you want to achieve. Exfoliation is key to that look, and it’s a skincare step you don’t want to miss even when you are traveling.
Drink water This is probably the easiest tip on this list, but the hardest one to do. Drop some of the left over holiday fruit in your glass to give your water a little natural flavor boost.
While on the go keep these tips in mind to maintain glowing, blemish-free skin. Take as many as photos as you can, and enjoy every moment of your trip. I hope you’re as excited about the holidays as I am!
